From October, 1974 to May 1977, we have done bacteriological culture and sensitivity test by pirating pus from 33 cases of peritonsillar abscess patient.
Following result was obtained:
1) Male to female ratio was 18 to 15.
2) Most frequent age group was between 21~30, 12 cases in number (36.4%), next group was between 11~20 cases (24.2%), and then between 31~40, 5 cases (15.2%).
3) Bacteriological culture showed, 8 cases (24.2%) of β-hemolytic streptococcus & γ-hemolytic streptococcus each, 5 cases(15.1%) of α-hemolytic streptococcus and 7 cases(21.2%) of no growth.
4) Bacteriological sensitivity test showed that α, β, & γ-hemolytic streptococci were sensitive to ampicillin, gentamycin, ceporan, erythromycin, kanamycin, geopen. pencillin, streptomycin terramycin, minocin, & chloramphenicol and few cases were resistant.
But coliform bacillus, yeast like fungus & pseudomonas were resistant to ampicillin, ceporan. kanamycin, geopen, penicillin, streptomycin, terramycin minocin, & chloramphenicol.
